Review: Red Queen - Victoria Aveyard

Image
October 2016: She finishes reading Red Queen. She likes it and immediately bought the second book of the series but doesn´t read on. September 2018: She decides that she´d like to read on but doesn´t remember much of the storyline of the first book. She re-reads it and again, she likes it.  November 2020: She feels the urge to read Red Queen - the whole series this time. She reads all four books in about two weeks. She loves the books.    After four years, I finally read the whole Red Queen series, and no matter how often I had to read the first book to recall the storyline, I just love this book!       Red Queen takes place in a world divided by color - blood color. There are the Silvers with inhuman abilities. They tower above the population of their Silver ruled kingdoms. Then there are the Reds, the Oppressed. They have no abilities and therefore they are "worth less". They live a hard life, struggling to feed the family, while the Silvers live a splendid life.       In

Review: Kiss me in Palm Springs - Catherine Rider

Review: Leah on the Off Beat - Becky Albertalli

Image
It was never a question if I‘m going to read the new novel of one of my favorite authors. The question was rather when am i gonna read Leah on the Off Beat ?  Finally I found some time to read and it was absolutely not wasted - but what else would I expect from Becky Albertalli ? Basically Leah on the Off Beat is about friends, finding love and growing up. I really enjoyed reading the novel because I can relate with Leah. It’s her last year of high school and she has to deal with problems like college and the whole what-comes-after-school-deal - the same problems I have to deal with. It’s also nice to see the Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda (“the first part”)   characters from another point of view. Note: It’s not necessary to read Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda or The Upside of Unrequited (“the second part”) to get the story! In Albertallis novels, you just see how the world of three totally different teenagers intertwines - teenagers of different sex, with different skin

Review: Melody´s Key - Dallas Coryell

A 19-year-old girl, a gay best friend, a famous pop star, a heart wrenching love story between the girl and the star, a bitter break-up, and I think, more I needn´t tell. Sounds like a typical love story, but the writing makes it unique. Melody´s Key is about Tegan Lockwood, whose family owns a holiday place at which the famous pop star Mason Keane takes a timeout. At first, Tegan isn´t very excited of their guest, but soon she learns that Mason isn’t what he´s rumored to be and they get to know each other better and better. Yet it´s difficult for Tegan to let someone come close to her, because of a bad experience in the past. Tegan and Mason have one important thing in common – music. Mason is the first person ever to her Tegan´s self-written, they even end up writing songs together – songs about their love. The songs are very romantic, just like Tegan herself is. She sees the world in vivid romantic detail, which is reflected by the writing style (which I absolutely love!). At f

Review: Half Bad - Sally Green

He's half White Witch, half Black Witch. His mother was a healer, his father is a killer. He's been kept in a cage since he was fourteen. But if White Witches are good and Black Witches are evil, what happens if you are both?   With exactly this problem Nathan Bryn , the protagonist of the Half Bad Trilogy , has to deal with. His mother, a White Witch, once fell in love with the most feared Black Witch of all - Marcus. But as Blacks are reckoned as evil, the Council of the White Witches, of course, prohibited this love and Nathan´s mom got married with someone else and had three children with him. Since Nathan´s Mom still was in love with Marcus, they came together once again and had a child - Nathan , half Black, half White. As Nathan is a Half Code, the other children bully him for his mixture of blood - especially the O´Brien bothers, after they discovered that their sister, Annalise, meets up with him. On top, he regularly has to go to the Council to tes
